How to create a car listing on WhatListing
Selling a car does not require a classifieds account or a long setup. With WhatListing you build a clear vehicle ad, add photos, and get a single shareable link. Buyers see your details and can reach you using the contact information or WhatsApp number you add—ideal for Facebook Marketplace groups, local chats, or sending the link directly to interested people.
Where to start
Open Create Vehicle Listing from the homepage, or go to My listings, choose Create listing, then Vehicle. Both routes take you to the same builder at /vehicle-listing.
The builder has three tabs: Form, Gallery, and Preview. Work through the form first, then add images, check the preview, and publish when you are ready.
Step 1: Basic details
The first step covers the essentials: make, model, year, and optional fields such as trim, body type, colour, doors, and registration. You must enter make, model, and year before you can move on—this keeps every listing readable and searchable.
Step 2: Engine and performance
Add engine size, fuel type, transmission, mileage, drivetrain, power (BHP), and emissions if you know them. Accurate figures help serious buyers filter and compare without messaging you for basics.
Step 3: Features and history
Describe equipment, previous owners, MOT status and expiry, service history, road tax, and any standout features. Honest detail here reduces wasted messages and builds trust.
Step 4: Additional information
Set your price, location (city and postcode), and whether you are a private or trade seller. You must add a price on this step, and you need either contact details or a WhatsApp number (or both) so buyers can reply—without that, you cannot continue to the gallery.
You can also add a short call to action and optional links such as Facebook Messenger if you use them.
Gallery: photos that sell
Switch to the Gallery tab and upload clear photos: front three-quarter, rear, both sides, interior, dashboard with mileage, tyres, and any damage you are declaring. Good light and straight horizons make listings look serious and get more clicks.
If you showed MOT or service paperwork in the features step, matching photos here back up what you wrote.
Preview and drafts
Use the Preview tab to read the listing as a buyer would. Fix typos, tighten the price line, or jump back to the form or gallery to adjust anything.
Your progress is saved automatically in this browser as you go. If you close the tab and come back later on the same device, you should see your draft restored so you do not start from scratch.
Publish and share
When you are happy, open the publish flow from the builder. Images upload, then your listing goes live and you get a share link to copy or send. If verification (such as a captcha) is shown, complete it so the publish can finish.
Signed-in users can choose options such as a private listing where relevant; guest publishers follow the same core steps to go live and share.
Tips for a stronger listing
- State condition honestly—buyers who arrive expecting accuracy are more likely to complete a sale.
- Keep the price and location aligned with how you want to be contacted (e.g. WhatsApp for quick questions).
- Reply promptly; many buyers compare several ads at once.
